How to prevent an application from using native windows

13/11/2017 Stuart Moore

If you need to prevent a containerized application from using a native window, application or process, then you can configure AAV to use the ExcludeNativeWindows feature. This feature switch has the effect of hiding all native windows processes from the virtualized application, forcing it to only use processes running in the Container.

Example Scenario

The Container includes two apps, a line of business app (LOBx) and Word 2007. A different version of Word may also be installed on natively on the user's desktop. To ensure the app LOBx always uses the version of Word in the Container, even when the natively installed Word is running and the containerized Word isn't, you can enable ExcludeNativeWindows to force LOBx to use Word 2007.

Step by Step

  1. Edit AppAcceleratorV.clc
  2. Uncomment the <Features>  </Features> tag, and create a feature tag for ExcludeNativeWindows
<Features>
    <Feature>ExcludeNativeWindows</Feature>
</Features>
