Frequent Asked Questions
What accreditations and certifications do you hold?
ISO 9001, Citrix Ready for Virtual Apps and Desktop (XenApp and XenDesktop), Certified for Azure, Microsoft Managed Partner, Microsoft Gold Application Developer and Silver Cloud Competency. Many of our staff are Security Cleared (SC Cleared).
Besides Citrix, do you support VMware?
Yes, Cloudhouse supports application Containers on vSphere Virtual Machines (desktop and server operating systems) and application Containers running on VMware’s Horizon.
Do you support Mac, Android or Windows Mobile?
No, Cloudhouse offers Containers for Windows Applications only, running on a full desktop operating system.
Do you work with clouds other than Microsoft Azure, for example Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM Cloud?
Yes, we are cloud agnostic, and only require a supported Windows Operating Systems.
What about Current Branch, and Current Branch for Business updates for Windows 10?
Since the release of Windows 10, Microsoft updates have not affected our components, or caused an issue with an application in a Cloudhouse Container. The level of abstraction and the compatibility provided by our Containers helps customers with their Evergreen strategy, and we expect this trend to continue. We do test our software with early access, and insider preview builds that Microsoft make available to us so that we can identify and resolve issues in advance. We recommend organisations continue to test Windows Updates prior to releasing to their production systems, in case there is a change that affects a feature used by their application.
Why use Cloudhouse and not Microsoft App-V, VMware ThinApp?
Cloudhouse provides compatibility and redirections to enable otherwise incompatible applications to run on modern Microsoft platforms. Containers can help incompatible desktop applications run on a server operating system. For customers who want to standardize on App-V, once our Containers have been used to solve the compatibility issue it can be packaged using App-V for delivery.
Do you have case studies with other customers in my sector?
Case studies available at http://www.cloudhouse.com/resources/customer-industry-news
What level of Suport will I receive, and how do I contact Support?

Licensing and Usage
How is your product licensed?
Unlimited apps per unique user per year or per unique machine per year. Per Server based pricing for server based applications.
How do you monitor usage?
Containers can report usage data over HTTPS, or via local file share and uploaded to Cloudhouse on a monthly basis.
What applications can you package for 32 and 64-bit operating systems?
Windows Client, Server and IE based applications, including runtimes for 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems. 32-bit applications with or without 16-bit dlls for 32-bit Windows and 32-bit & 64-bit applications for 64-bit Windows.
Can you package 16-bit applications?
Yes for 32-bit operating systems, however modern 64-bit operating systems like Windows 10 and Server 2012 R2 do not provide a 16-bit runtime environment for 16 bit executables.
Do Containers support applications with drivers and services?
Drivers can be installed with a script included in the Container during deployment, commands are available to configure applications with services.
What about applications that require Admin privileges?
Containers can enforce Least Privilege, so that applications that request Admin privileges unnecessarily to install can be installed and run by users, or Administrators. Applications that normally require Admin permissions can be deployed by users, except when drivers are present. Administrator privileges are required to install applications to all users on a machine.
Can IE Containers deploy plugins, and different versions of Java, without affecting the versions already installed on the target server or desktop?
Yes, redirections ensure that only the IE application deployed with the Container uses the packaged runtimes. Natively installed applications continue to use the natively installed runtimes.
Can applications in one Container communicate with another?
Yes, applications in Containers can be isolated as well, either from another Container or a natively installed application.
What file type are these containerised apps outputted as?
Container format is a folder, it includes a deployment executable which is used by SCCM, scripts and other 3rd party tools to (optionally) copy and install the application.
How do you update applications?
Containers can be updated with an updated snap shot that includes application updates. Changes to the Container can be pushed out to machines using the deployment tools that are provided in the Container.
Does a runtime client need to be installed before Containers can be deployed or run?
No, Containers include a user mode runtime environment that is deployed with the application.
Where do I store Containers?
UNC file share for domain joined machines.
How do I deploy the application Container?
Cloudhouse supports SCCM, ivanti (LANDESK), Active Directory Group Policy Objects, scripts and other 3rd Party Electronic Software Distribution tools.
Do you provide deployment service?
No, Cloudhouse Containers are deploying using a Customer's existing deployment tools and infrastructure.
Networking and Performance
What is the network overhead of running applications in a Container?
Network overhead of a Containers is minimal; network usage depends upon the size of the application when it is installed across the network. Once installed, the container only reports application usage (start, stop) events, failure and diagnostic events for telemetry and supportability purposes.
How much CPU and memory does this take up on the server or user’s device?
Containers require an additional 2-3% CPU, and 2-5MB of RAM per application.
Security, Compliance and Disaster Recovery
How do you ensure that applications for Server 2003 or XP runs securely in a container on the new operating system?
Containers can be configured to isolate the application from all other applications running on the server. Supported operated systems patched with the latest security updates, and newer operating systems like Server 2016 offer a significant improvement in security when compared to Server 2003 and XP. Cloudhouse recommends firewall software is used to protect the server and applications running on the server.
How can I ensure I remain compliant?
Cloudhouse provides Containers for applications that currently run on unsupported and non-compliant systems, moving applications to a supported operating system, or remoting software like Citrix XenApp enables a customer to remain compliant. Cloudhouse products and services do not check for, or provide compliance.
Does Cloudhouse have a Business Continuity Plan?
Yes, implemented Business Continuity Disaster Recovery Plan (BCDR) as part of ISO 9001 Quality Management System; for their office, IT infrastructure and any cloud services that may be provide for customers. Cloudhouse do not provide DR for customer's on-premise servers, infrastructure, applications or Cloudhouse Containers stored on a customer's file share, these should be backed up the customer or managing partner.
