Overview & Business Value

Reference architecture for migrating incompatible apps from XenApp 4.5/5.0 on Windows 2003 Server to Citrix Virtual Apps  (XenApp) 7.x on Windows 2016 using Compatibility Containers. The Cloudhouse solution is Citrix Ready requires no changes to your existing Citrix Virtual Apps (XenApp) on AWS architecture. A packaging machine is required during the migration project to create the Containers; this machine can be deleted once the project has completed. Administrators publish Applications to users using Citrix Studio wizards in the same way that a natively installed application is, refer to Publishing Containerized Applications in Citrix Virtual Apps‍ for details.

Methodology

Stage 1: Prep

  1. Media & install instructions
  2. Create a clean Win 2003 packaging AMI
  3. Install Auto Packager on Win 2003 packaging AMI

Stage 2: Create Compatibilty Containers

  1. Run the Auto Packager on Win 2003 packaging AMI
  2. Install Apps using media to create a Container

Stage 3: Deploy

  1. Create Win 2016 AMI and install the Citrix Virtual Apps  (XenApp) 7.x VDA
  2. Use customer's preferred software deployment tool to deploy Containers to Win 2016 AMI, for example
